[Breaking] Mr Ibu is reported dead

Nollywood veteran, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has reportedly passed away at the age of 62. According to sources close to him, the comedian/actor died at Evercare Hospital, but the cause of death is still unclear. Fans have taken to social media to express their condolences and reminisce about the movies he has featured in.

Mr Ibu had been battling health issues since October 2023 and had undergone multiple surgeries that led to the amputation of his leg. However, his family had provided updates in November that he was recovering. The news of his death comes less than 24 hours after the demise of Quadri Oyebamiji, another veteran Nollywood actor.

In 2019, Mr Ibu alleged that his kinsmen paid some of his domestic workers to poison him because of his successful career. He also claimed to have been poisoned for the third time in May 2022. In an interview with Vanguard Newspaper, he disclosed that he was already “seeing people on the other side” but God brought him back to life.

The actor’s family and representatives have yet to comment publicly on his passing. However, several notable Nollywood figures have posted lighted candles on his behalf to mourn the actor.

Mr Ibu was a beloved figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry, known for his comedic roles in movies. He had a career spanning over two decades and had featured in several blockbuster movies, including “Mr Ibu in London” and “Police Recruit.”

His passing is a great loss to the Nigerian entertainment industry, and his legacy will continue to live on through his movies. Fans and colleagues alike will miss his infectious humor and unique talent.May his soul rest in peace.
