WASU Urges FGN to Renegotiate 2009 Agreement,adopt UTAS, pay withheld salaries, promotion arrears etc.

The West Africa Student’s Union, WASU under the leadership of Comr. Pillah Romans Orhembaga has warned the Federal Government not to blame ASUU over the warning strike, the WASU President said Education should be made an essential service that cannot attract industrial action, He stated that there’s no need Federal government should blackmail ASUU over the strike actions, and the issue is becoming so outrageous, which normally causes delays to their students within Nigeria, the Union totally condemns the poor funding and walfare of the Nigerian universities.

In a statement signed by the Director, Media & ICT to WASU President Comr.Timothy Age said thery union is also aware that a meeting was held by NEC, ASUU at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, After serious deliberations that dragged into the early hours of today, the National Executive Council, NEC, of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has voted to embark on one-month warning strike to press home its demands from the federal government.

The West Africa Student’s Union urge Federal Government of Nigeria to act fast on the issue of Outstanding areas disputes including the refusal to sign and implement the Renegotiated 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement, adoption of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution(UTAS), funding of State Universities, non-payment of withheld salaries, check-offs and promotion arrears.
